Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean to be "saved"?
All people are born sinners. It is not until we (1) profess to Jesus Christ that we are sinners, (2) seek repentence for our sins and (3) accept Jesus Christ as the one, true God, that we receive salvation from eternal life in Hell and to eternal life in Heaven.

What is the difference between seeking "forgiveness" for sins and "repentence" for sins?
Seeking "forgiveness" of our sins means to acknowledge our sins before Jesus Christ, and as He promises, to be absolved and pardoned from those sins. "Repentence" from sin means to turn away from those sins for which we seek forgiveness. Seeking forgiveness without true repentence on our part is an empty action.

Must I be baptized to be saved?
We are not saved by the physical action of baptism. We are only saved through faith, and by the grace, of Jesus Christ. The physical act of baptism is a public profession that, once you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, your old life is gone and your new, born-again life has begun.

What associations is Braeburn Valley Baptist Church associated with?
At the national level, we are aligned with the Southern Baptist Convention. On the State level, we support the Southern Baptist Convention of Texas. At the local level, we are associated with the Union Baptist Association of Houston.

Do I have to physically attend church to be a Christian?
NO, you do not have to attend church in order to be a Christian, but in the two verses following, you will find the reasons for attending and being a part of a local body known as a church. Hebrews 10:25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. (NKJV) Also, Eph.4:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love. (NKJV)
